If a tree falls in the woods but no one is there to hear it, does it make any sound? If you post something that is never seen by anyone, does it do any good?
I say this mostly in jest. Realistically I knew that only a handful of people would ever visit my blog. I tend to be fairly idealistic though and envisioned that I would have more and better posts, more participation, etc. The reality is that I have spent little time at this, and what time I have spent has mainly resulted in several yet-to-be-published drafts. And I am amazed at the quantity and the quality of LDS-authored blogs. There are literally thousands of great blogs out there with very talented and insightful writers.
My main hope in starting a blog was to be able to exchange ideas and to learn from the perspective of others. I have been surprised that a few have visited and commented here, and I hope they will continue to do so. While I enjoy the writing process, I hope that eventually I will have more discussion-oriented posts and that more dialogue will occur.

Fwiw, I keep my own blog as a personal journal. Any participation is gravy. (Actually, I can’t have gravy, so participation is icing – which I can have only in small doses.)
I post links to my personal blog when I don’t want to rewrite or post long comments, but I have accepted the reality that it will never be a “popular”, well-known blog.

My blog is about testifying to others but also to me. I know someday I will need it. It also helps me keep focus on what I really want.
So I hope (expect) to have people answering to me if they come and read my blog but I don’t do it only for them. As I have learned over the past efw years: I am the most important person in my life and if I don’t do things for myself it is pointless trying to do them for others.

I have to say I probably don’t have the right to comment on this one, since I’ve pretty much given up posting on our blog for various reasons. But I really admire you, Jim, for keeping at it the way you have and for being so open with your posts.
I also have to say about “backandthen’s” comment, that I think it’s true you need to do things for yourself sometimes. I think a lot of us tend to get caught up in family life, church, work, extracurriculars, etc, and that’s good to a point. I guess what I mean is that we shouldn’t neglect ourselves and our own needs, we need to take time to nourish ourselves. So thanks for that reminder and I’ll try to take that advice!
